New Year's Eve at Zoo Planckendael
New Year's Eve at Zoo Planckendael

As the year drew to a close, I decided to make the most of my early finish at work and head to Zoo Planckendael in my hometown of Mechelen. Having a subscription certainly makes spontaneous visits like this a breeze.

My first stop was the zoo's restaurant, Toepaja, where I enjoyed a quick lunch—a Queen's snack. With my hunger satisfied, I ventured into the Asia section of the zoo. I deliberately avoided the orangutan enclosure, knowing that the cold weather would cause my camera to fog up.

My first destination was the Asia Lions. To my delight, the female lion and her two young teenagers were outside, basking in the chilly air. I seized the opportunity to capture some stunning photos of these majestic creatures.

After spending about half an hour with the lions, I continued my journey to the other side of the zoo, hoping to catch a glimpse of the elusive Snow Leopards. Unfortunately, luck wasn't on my side this time. However, my spirits were lifted when I reached the Red Panda enclosure. One of the red pandas was particularly active, and with a bit of patience, I managed to snap some great shots.

As the cold began to seep in, I decided to wrap up my visit and head home. It was a short but fulfilling trip, and I can't wait to share the photos from this New Year's Eve adventure with you all.

Stay tuned for the next post!
